PPE attire and disposal/cleaning

  • Once inside the production room, wear masks, gloves, lab coat.
  • Lab coats should not leave the room.
  • Face masks stay on at all times.
  • Gloves & shoe covers need to be changed or disinfected after leaving the room.

Printing visors

  • Should be a continuous print, estimated run time given on individual 3d printer details page.
  • Load the appropriate file for the 3d printer (on 3d printer details page)
  • Load a new filament if necessary (PETG) (initally volunteers should already know how to do this)
  • In the event of issues, troubleshooting is available at the contacts page posted in facility

Punching shields:

  1. Take 5 A4 plastic sheets

  2. Gently hit them against the table to ensure they are even

  3. Place them in the small corner punch

  4. Punch two corners on the same (long) side

  5. Corners will be rounded

  6. Place the unrounded side of these plastic sheets in the 4 hole punch

  7. Gently but firmly press the lever down

  8. Remove the punched sheets and place in the blue container

  9. Store punched sheets in groups of 10

  10. Stack the groups of 10 sheets perpendicularly

Quality Control

QC

  • Visors
    • A volunteer 3D printer minder removes the visors from the box and checks them for quality in four areas : arms, front, thickness, consistency.
    • the 3D printer minder removes any visors that do not meet the standards
    • The 3D printer minder then transfers the quality visors to the manufacturing facility
    • The 3D printer minder then places the visors on a rack
    • During this process the minder removes any strings or impurities left from the printing process
    • Packing volunteers then take the visors and place them in the sealed packages, performing one last quality control check.
  • Shields
    • the volunteer inspects all completed sheets for quality and consistency
    • they are then taken to the packaging station
    • at the packaging station the volunteer inspects the sheets before packing to ensure they are even, consistent and fit to standard.

  1. Thread the plastic sleeve through the plastic sealing machine.

  2. Ensure that the sleeve is straight

  3. Line the sleeve up next to the two red lights

  4. Insert a pile of 10 punched sheets into the plastic sleeve

  5. Align the plastic sheet with the front of the sealing machine

  6. Make sure you can see the edge of the sheet

  7. Press the foot pedal to release the cutting arm

  8. Wait for the two lights to go off

  9. After the lights go off, cut the sleeve

  10. Press and hold the yellow button

  11. Drag the yellow button back and forth 6 times

  12. Release the foot pedal

  13. Remove the cut sleeve from the sealer.

  14. If the cut is incomplete, finish with scissors

  15. Rotate the sleeve 90 degrees and reinsert into the sealer

  16. Line the sheets up with the sealer

  17. Make sure you can see the edge of the sheets

  18. Press the foot pedal to release the cutting arm DO NOT CUT

  19. Wait for the 2 red lights to go off

  20. After the lights go off, release the foot pedal

  21. The sack should have two separate sections

  22. Collect two sets of 5 3D Printed visors from the rack

  23. Insert one set of 5 face down into the second sack

  24. Insert the second set of 5 face up into the second sack

  25. Place the unsealed edge in the sealer machine

  26. Make sure you can see the edge of the sheets

  27. Press foot pedal to release the cutting arm DO NOT CUT

  28. Wait until the two red lights go off

  29. After the lights go off, remove package

  30. Fold in half and place upright in collection box

Delivery

  • Wear mask and gloves, you're going to a hospital!
  • Take boxes of face shields to the place you're told to take them.
